Make the scene safer
Turn on hazard lights, move behind a barrier if possible and keep everyone away from live traffic.
Do not stand between vehicles or step into a moving lane to place a warning triangle.
If there is fire, smoke, leaking fuel or another immediate danger, move to a safer distance and call 997.
Report the incident
Call police on 999 and give the road name, direction of travel, nearest exit or landmark and number of vehicles.
Report injuries and request ambulance help on 998. Say if anyone is trapped, unresponsive or having difficulty breathing.
Follow police instructions. The UAE Government says road incidents must be reported, including minor ones.
Help without causing harm
Do not move an injured person from a vehicle unless there is immediate danger, they need CPR or the call handler directs you.
Do not remove a motorcyclist’s helmet unless needed for breathing care and you are directed or trained.
Stay visible, keep bystanders back and update emergency services if conditions change.
Minor collision or possible injury?
The UAE Government says to report a road accident to police on 999 and follow their instructions. If nobody is hurt and the collision is minor, move vehicles to the shoulder only when that can be done safely and does not create another hazard.
If anyone may be injured, tell police and request an ambulance on 998. Do not move vehicles or an injured person simply to clear traffic; emergency services can advise based on the scene.
If you are unsure whether someone is injured, say what you observe rather than declaring the crash minor. A person’s condition can change after the first call, so update the emergency services if new symptoms appear.
Help responders find the right carriageway
Give the road or highway name, direction of travel, nearest exit, landmark and number of vehicles. On a divided road, the direction matters as much as the location pin.
Describe immediate hazards such as fire, smoke, leaking fuel, trapped occupants or vehicles blocking live lanes. If fire or smoke is present, move away and call Civil Defence on 997.
Keep yourself and others away from moving traffic while waiting. Do not cross lanes to photograph the scene or retrieve property, and follow police directions before returning to vehicles.
